Breaking Free From The Past

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:12-14

One day at the circus a man was passing the elephants when he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures where being held by only a single rope tied to their leg and the other end to a small wooden peg in the ground. It was obvious the elephants could easily break the rope or pull the peg out of the ground and walk away, but for some reason they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these magnificently strong animals just stood there and made no attempt to break way.

“Well”, the trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use a similar size rope to tie them. At that age it is enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to think they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was completely amazed. The elephants could break free at any time, but because they thought they could not, they didn’t even try. They were stuck right there.  This powerful, gigantic creature had limited it’s present abilities by holding on to it’s limitations of the past.

How many of us go through life limiting our abilities based on failures of the past?

I can either choose to stay fully bound up in my past, continue to blame everyone and everything , throw pity parties or I can choose to rise up and make a fresh start with the Lord by choosing to fully surrender my entire life into His hands.  I then need to work with Him to get my past fully cleaned up so that I can start to fully live in the present again and move towards the destiny that He has already planned out for my life.

Right now, right here, it’s time for me to let go and move forward.

Are you there God? It’s me Jay.

I’ve had it, I’m done, I surrender.

I hereby give up my need to do it my way, and I’m asking for help.

Help me be clear, and of service.

Help me show up and share my gifts.

And please. . .

Help me get out of my own way.

I want to shine so bright that even you God, have got to wear shades.

I know what I’m here to do.

Help me do it.

What is Faith?

Harbor Beach 2k10 (13)2

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen.  It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.

Hebrews 11:1

Faith involves trusting that God is working in the unseen spiritual realm.  We base this on God’s past actions in the world.  If we want a spiritual life that is vibrant we have to always live by such faith.  Faith can’t be held in our hands, we can’t see it, but I know that Faith in God and His Word is more real than anything my senses can physically verify. Faith based in the Word of God is as realistic as any “substance” or “evidence” gets. Nothing in this world is more real.

I enjoy Dr Tony Evans books and listening to his sermons, I believe he explains faith better than anyone.

“Faith is acting like something is so even when it is not so in order for it might be so simply because God said so.”

Dr. Tony Evans

Today I am praying that I will put into action the generosity that comes from my faith as I understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ.

52 Sundays with the Lord

My goal with 52 Sundays is to spend quality time each Sunday with the Lord.

I will;

LISTEN;  I will take time to read God’s word and learn His will.  The Bible is God’s love letter to us, expressing His tender thoughts to us.  It’s also a perfect blueprint for building the character God wants in all of us.  I will quiet myself and LISTEN.

TALK;  I will take time to pray, pray about everything.  My prayers will be more than “give me”, they will include confessions, praise, and thanskgiving.  My prayers will be of needs, not wants.  I will TALK to God more often.

PLAN;  I will take time to understand that we are to live according to God’s plan, not ours.  As I worship I will look for specific ways that I can do things that please God, my acts shall demonstrate that He is controlling my life.  I will follow God’s PLAN.

WRITE;  I will take time to really understand God’s word by writing about Scripture each Sunday.  My focus will be on what it means to me and how I can apply it to my life.  I will WRITE with a humble heart and a desire to carry out God’s plan.

Note;  Although I love to write, I have never done something like this before.  Comments and suggestions are welcomed as I start this journey of enlightenment.

Thanks for stopping by,  God Bless

“All Scripture is Inspired by God”

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.  It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

God has left us a wonderful resource – the Bible.  Consider it the ultimate guide to help us realize what is wrong in our lives.  At anytime we can go to it to find help in evaluating our lives.  It shows us how to properly and unselfishly relate to God and other people.  God’s word offers much more than good advice, it’s a promise of God’s powerful help to anyone who turns to Him with a humble heart.  Our spiritual growth can only happen when we seek out the understanding of God’s word, and obey what it says.

On this Sunday I will take the time to reflect, re-evaluate my life and look to God’s word for guidance in living my life according to His plan.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

What this means to me on this Sunday morning,

Rejoice always, rejoice: to feel joy or great delight.  God wants us to delight in his love.

Pray without ceasing, ceasing: to bring to an end, to stop.  God does not want us to stop praying, and we shouldn’t.  It can seem sometimes that you pray and pray and those prayers go unanswered, no one is listening.  But God is listening, he does answer, he answers according to his plans, not ours.  We have to remember that we are to live out our lives based on God’s plan, not ours.

Give thanks in all circumstances; in all.  Notice the verse says in all,  not for all.  God doesn’t want us to give thanks for being sick, for losing a loved one,  but he does want us to find something in that circumstance to give thanks for.  And there always is, if we only take the time to look at it from a different perspective.  I was in a car accident, the car was brand new and it was totaled.  I’m not thankful that it was totaled, but I am thankful that I wasn’t seriously injuried, I didn’t kill anyone, I walked away and saw my family once more, for that I am truly thankful.

for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you, will: wish or desire.  These are the things that God desires for us.

In summary;

God desires that we delight and find joy in his love, that we never stop praying for the things we need to carry out his plan not ours, and that we find something to give thanks for in every circumstance, good or bad.
